Description
The harmonica is derived from an ancient Chinese instrument the Sheng about 5,000 years ago. In the early 19th century, Christian Friedrich Ludwig Bushmann came up with his own version of the harmonica by bundling 15 pitch pipes into a square shape about 4 inches tall and wide. He called it the Bushmann Aura. The modernized version of the harmonica you and I play today was not invented until 1865 by Mathias Hohner. His version quickly took off in America. He developed his own company in 1857 and they still make beautiful harmonicas to this day.
