Contrary to popular belief the banjo was not born and created in America. In fact, it was not introduced to America until the 17th century when African slaves were forced here. The Banjo was actually created somewhere in Africa by using animal skin tacked to a hollowed half of a gourd with 3 or 4 strings made from horse hair or gut on a planed stick and it was called a Banjar. The instrument became popular among American people. Since then major modifications were made giving us today’s versions the 5-string, plectrum, and the tenor.<\/p>\n

If you are a banjo player who prefers the 5-string version you need the Deering Goodtime Openback Banjo. It is an American made beauty with an incredibly vibrant sound. It is a lightweight Banjo that is great for traveling and light enough so kids can easily play it. This Banjo comes highly recommended by teachers and processionals all over the world. They are practically jumping off of our shelves so get your today!<\/p>\n
