Epiphone Les Paul Special VE – Ebony
With the Les Paul Special VE, Epiphone decided to take on a simpler-yet-grittier approach to the iconic Les Paul. Vintage Worn finishes give this guitar a look that means business and is ready to deliver. The grittiness comes from not only the looks, but the tones as well, thanks to Epiphone’s Open Coil Humbuckers. With All-metal hardware rounding out the looks, you’ll be getting a lot of bang for your buck with the Les Paul Special VE.
Vintage Worn Finishes
The Les Paul Special VE comes in six vintage worn finishes: Vintage Sunburst, Ebony, Cherry, Walnut, and Heritage Cherry Sunburst. Each finish provides an aged look with character, while also being more comfortable than a gloss-finished guitar due to their tendency to get sticky when you sweat. When you take this guitar with you on the road and it starts to show some wear, it’ll blend in perfectly with the worn-in finish. The poplar body wood is lightweight but also provides a meaty tone, so you’ll have the benefit of being able to play longer while having a guitar that sounds full. The body is accompanied by a slim 24.75″ scale Okoume bolt-on neck, with 22 medium jumbo frets and traditional pearloid dot inlays.
Epiphone’s Open Coil Humbuckers
The open coil humbuckers on the Les Paul Special VE are major factors in creating the vintage look and sound of the guitar. The 650R pickup in the neck position provides a nice warmth and crispiness, perfect for smooth lead playing and rounded out sounds. When you want to get a bit heavier and crunchier, the 700T pickup in the bridge will deliver hotter sounds with loads of sustain. Since both pickups are open coil instead of being covered, you will have an increased level of clarity and brightness, perfect for cutting through and being heard amongst a mix of other instruments.
All-Metal Hardware
Epiphone spared no expenses with nickel hardware on the Les Paul Special VE. Accurate tuning that firmly holds its place comes from Epiphone’s Premium Covered tuners with a 14:1 ratio. The Locktone Tune-O-Matic bridge and Stopbar tailpiece look the part as well and will be reliable for years to come.
